Ogilvy were tasked with overhauling the digital presence of Odeon cinemas across multiple touch-points from their website and app, all the way to their self service ticket POS system. I worked on a new digital design system to start this transition and updated the website in the process to apply the transformation.

Making it distinctively Odeon

Odeon cinemas are iconic and we wanted to make the digital experience feel the same for customers, you’re not just going to the cinema – you’re going to Odeon. We created a system with distinct colours, shapes and other design elements to bring joy to the digital experience.

Bringing it all together

After showing stakeholders multiple concepts, we landed on a style we were happy with and started creating key pages on the user journey. We had 5 design principle to follow and keep in mind while working on the new design; simple, entertaining, personal, empowering and human.

Creating a reusablecomponent library

We worked through key screens on the Odeon website and booking flow but there was a still many more pages to be transformed into the new style. We created a component library for Odeon to take and continue building the rest of the pages and new pages in the future.

Detailed handover spec

Odeon had their own engineering team, so we build a detailed spec going over all the details for each component, highlighting behaviour, do and dont’s and any other relevant information before we handed over the work.
